Senior Estimator
Description
The Senior Estimator will manage and execute all estimating tasks for Lump Sum Bids, Construction Management procurement, and pre-construction budgets/ costing exercises.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY - TASK DESCRIPTION
- Manage and complete all estimating tasks required for the preparation and submission of the lump sum bid projects.
- Manage and complete all estimating tasks for Construction Management projects, including full subcontractor procurement and handover to the Project Management team.
- Manage and complete project budgets and cost analysis exercises when required, working in close collaboration with the Pre-Construction team.
- Mentor and manage junior and intermediate estimating staff to conduct all required estimating tasks such as bid levelling, quantity takeoffs, preparation of bid lists and making subcontractor calls.
- Manage and approve all subcontractor bid recommendations. Ensure adequate allowances have been included for all potential risks and/or scope gaps that should be considered, working in close collaboration with the project management team.
- Attend bidder’s meetings when required to gain a proper understanding of site logistics.
- Encouraged to regularly tour our ongoing construction projects with site management to discuss ongoing lessons learned and incorporate this data into master scopes of work moving forward.
- Develop strategies to create a competitive edge.
- Have a strong understanding of general condition costs and how to properly incorporate them into project budgets.
- Develop, maintain, and utilize various estimating templates that are required for day-to-day tasks
- such as budget summaries, scope of work templates, bid forms, bid analysis summaries, take-off templates and subcontractor pre-qualification forms.
- Work closely with the project managers and site superintendents for the preparation of all subcontractor scopes of work.
- Have a strong ability to analyze drawings and specifications for accuracy, constructability, and potential risks.
- Have strong attention to detail when preparing subcontractor scopes of work. Taking time to customize scopes to the bid documents and seamlessly overlapping all subcontractor scopes to minimize scope gaps as much as possible.
- Communicate regularly with owners and consultants to address any questions they have and to obtain clarification on the interpretation of the bid documents (i.e. RFI’s)
- Oversee value engineering exercises when required and look for creative solutions to add value.
- Work with estimating staff to conduct subcontractor bid review meetings as necessary for proper understanding of their work, allowing for fair and complete bid levelling.
- Oversee estimating handover meetings with the project management team.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with owners, consultants, and subcontractors on projects to gain opportunities for potential future projects.
- Stay educated and current with the latest construction methods and trends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Construction Engineering Technology Diploma, Bachelor of Applied Technology, Engineering, or similar relevant field
- Certified member of OACETT/Gold Seal Certificates would be considered an asset.
- 5+ years’ experience as a senior estimator in general contracting
- Experience with project management software such as MS Project and Procore
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu for completing takeoffs is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel)

Compensation
$10,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
